Uptown Rumble: Heavy Music in The Bronx explores the rich and little-known history of Bronx bands and musicians playing in the heavier registers of rock music including hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal, hardcore, and more, from the 1960s through the early 2000s.

The Bronx Basketball Hall of Fame, curated by Derek Doward, CEO of The Bronx Basketball Hall of Fame, is a temporary exhibit highlighting the rich histories of basketball in The Bronx, starting from the very early years of the game up to the present, focusing on individuals who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

This permanent exhibit at Edgar Allan Poe Cottage features multimedia content on the life and literary output of Edgar Allan Poe during his time at the Cottage, 1846–1849. At the time, prior to the creation of The Bronx, the Cottage was located in the Village of Fordham, a bucolic suburb of Manhattan. It was here that Poe wrote some of his best known works, including “The Cask of Amontillado” and “Annabel Lee.” These were also the years—especially after his wife Virginia’s death in 1847—in which Poe slipped deeper into depression. Experience the space that would prove Poe’s final permanent home as well as the site of some of the greatest literary production of his career.

Ricky Flores’ “Dance Evolution at Orchard Beach” is photo essay from the 1980s that depicts the foundational dances that were common in Orchard Beach, where Breaking evolved in the 1970s and 80s. The dance circles at Orchard Beach centered around several popular dance styles like Salsa, Disco, Up Rock, and Floor Work. These circles were mere feet from one another, mostly found near Section 4 at Orchard Beach, which were popular with Puerto Ricans during the summer months.
‘Dance Evolution at Orchard Beach’ is part of the 2025 Photoville Festival’s city-wide exhibition series, which officially runs from June 7th through 22nd. But beach goers can already see the exhibition in Section 6.

Myth, History, and Power in The Bronx,” a free lecture by Dr. Amy Starecheski that interrogates the historical veracity, settler colonial background, and lasting power of the myth of Joe Two Trees, the purported “Last Algonquin” of Pelham Bay Park.
Amy Starecheski is an oral historian and cultural anthropologist. She directs the Oral History Master of Arts Program at Columbia University and is currently the visiting scholar at The Bronx County Historical Society.
Each Spring, the Beirne–Hermalyn Endowed Lecture Series in Urban Affairs at The Bronx County Historical Society, established in 2025 by Dr. Elizabeth Beirne and Dr. G. Hermalyn, highlights cutting-edge research in Bronx history in collaboration with an institution of higher learning in New York City. -

On this walk led by David Herszenson we will see historic houses of worship, the final resting place of members of The Bronx’s elite families, historic banks, a Victorian library (the Huntington Free Library), and turn-of-the-century homes. Tour is approximately 90 mins.

Join BCHS and filmmaker Jon Scott Bennett for a Free Screening of The Pound Ridge Massacre documentary with Q&A. In 1644, a combined force of Dutch and English colonists attacked a Native American village in present day Westchester County. It was one of the deadliest attacks on the indigenous people on the Atlantic Coast. The Pound Ridge Massacre is the story of that event, the colony of New Netherland (later New York), and the “River Tribes” of the Hudson River Valley. -
